The Albanian Power Exchange (ALPEX) has demonstrated robust growth in its trading activities, as evidenced by the latest figures for April 2026. The exchange recorded a total electricity trading volume of 190.1 GWh, marking a notable increase of 15.2% from March 2026 and an impressive 48.7% rise compared to April 2025. This surge reflects ongoing market development and enhanced liquidity within the platform.
Breaking down the traded volumes, the Kosovo bidding zone accounted for 111.4 GWh, while the Albania bidding zone saw 118.3 GWh traded. The average market clearing price was reported at 84.59 €/MWh for Albania and 84.95 €/MWh for Kosovo, culminating in an overall average price on ALPEX of 84.77 €/MWh.
The financial implications of this trading activity are significant, with total transaction values on ALPEX reaching approximately 30.38 million euros in April. This figure represents a substantial 39.3% increase year-on-year, underscoring both the elevated trading volumes and stable pricing across the two bidding zones.
ALPEX was established in October 2020 by the Albanian transmission system operator, OST, and its Kosovo counterpart, KOSTT. Following its inaugural auction in April 2023, the exchange has evolved into a vital regional trading platform, now boasting 36 members. Its role in facilitating regional electricity market integration continues to grow, positioning ALPEX as a key player in the Southeast European energy landscape.
