MD Green Energy is preparing a 74.6 MW solar portfolio in Albania. The plan involves three solar projects located near Fier in southwestern Albania. The development would add generation capacity beyond the country’s dominant hydropower sector.

The proposed plants would be built with capacities of 21.9 MW, 26.5 MW and 26.2 MW. All three projects are concentrated in the same development area near Fier. The company has not disclosed investment costs, financing arrangements, grid connections or commissioning dates.

Project details and timing

Information on investment costs and financing arrangements has not been provided by the developer. Grid connection details and commissioning timelines have also not been disclosed. Those factors are expected to influence how quickly the projects move from planning into construction.

Role in Albania’s generation mix

The portfolio is intended to broaden Albania’s generation mix. Its impact on supply security would depend on delivery timing. It would also depend on the ability to accommodate additional solar output on the network.
