TDI Renewables has secured €25.5 million in financing from Raiffeisen Bank International for its 58 MW Iratoșu solar power plant in western Romania. The project is located in Arad county and is part of a broader development programme that includes battery storage capacity. The financing is intended to support construction of the solar plant, while an 88 MWh battery system is planned for a later phase.
Battery storage planned after solar construction
The planned battery would be added subsequently rather than as part of the newly announced financing. Its inclusion in the development does not indicate that the €25.5 million funding covers installation of the storage system. The later battery addition is described as providing additional flexibility by enabling some electricity production to be stored and supplied at a different time.
Contractor appointed for engineering, procurement and construction
Construction of Iratoșu will be carried out by Ameresco Sunel Energy, appointed as engineering, procurement and construction contractor in July. The contract includes engineering, equipment procurement, installation and commissioning. It also extends into responsibilities during the plant’s operational phase.
TDI’s Romanian entry and regional expansion plans
London-based TDI entered the Romanian market in 2023. The company has set a target of approximately 1 GW of solar and wind capacity together with 2,200 MWh of battery storage. These figures represent the developer’s intended portfolio expansion across the region.
TDI’s wider expansion across Central and Eastern Europe is supported by a strategic partnership with Israeli investment fund Helios Energy Investments. The cooperation was established in 2024 and initially focused on renewable energy opportunities in markets including Romania, Poland and Bulgaria, with financial backing for project development. Completing Iratoșu would advance TDI’s Romanian generation portfolio, while the later storage addition would expand its ability to manage when electricity reaches the market.
