Electricity trading on Albania’s ALPEX day-ahead market increased in August, reaching 244.5 GWh. That level was up 8% from July and 39.6% compared with the same month a year earlier.
Within the period, trading for the Albanian bidding zone totalled 166.2 GWh. The average market-clearing price for the bidding zone was €146.88/MWh.
Transaction value outpaces volume growth
The value of transactions reached about €67.4 million, representing a 73.5% year-on-year increase. The rise in transaction value outpaced the growth in physical volumes.
Wholesale electricity prices remained elevated during the month, according to the figures reported for the market. The data also point to continued expansion of organised exchange trading in Albania.
Exchange trading role and regional integration
The reported figures link higher activity on ALPEX with developments in liquidity and regional market integration. Organised exchange trading is described as playing an expanding role in Albania as these conditions develop.
