Romania has extended its 25% excise-duty reduction on standard diesel into October, with the measure running through 15 October. The extension keeps tax relief in place as higher international prices affect transport and logistics costs. The temporary policy leaves excise duty at approximately €400 per 1,000 litres.
The reduction is worth about €133 per 1,000 litres, equivalent to roughly €0.133 per litre before any related tax effects. A government assessment cited international diesel quotations that were 63.7% higher and average Romanian retail diesel prices up 35.01% versus the comparison levels used in the assessment.
Excise-duty changes across August and September
The same 25% reduction applied throughout September. This followed a 20% cut during the second half of August. Support under the measure is reviewed every two weeks under Law 162/2026.
Review schedule and implications for fuel budgeting
The extension limits part of the cost increase facing diesel users. Its short duration leaves transport operators uncertain about fuel expenses beyond mid-October. Support continues to be subject to the two-week review cycle under Law 162/2026.
