In Romania, the wind energy sector is poised for significant growth as OMV Petrom and RNV Infrastructure have finalized investment decisions for multiple projects, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s renewable energy landscape. The approved initiatives will collectively add approximately 300 MW to the national grid, transitioning from planning to active construction.
The projects have successfully obtained all necessary permits and are projected to commence electricity generation in stages starting in the first half of 2027. This development indicates a robust commitment to enhancing Romania’s renewable energy infrastructure and reflects a strategic shift towards operational execution across various wind sites.
These initiatives stem from a partnership formed in 2024, when OMV Petrom acquired a 50% interest in a portfolio of wind assets previously developed by Electrocentrale Borzești. This collaboration underscores a broader strategy aimed at expediting the deployment of renewable energy solutions while reinforcing OMV Petrom’s position within the energy transition framework.
Among the advancing projects are several wind farms located in Bacău County, including the Gura Văii and Podu Turcului sites. Additionally, developments in Galați County are progressing, although one major project there is still pending a final investment decision, which is anticipated in the near future.
OMV Petrom is actively working to expand its renewable energy portfolio, targeting over 2.5 GW of installed capacity by 2030 through collaborative efforts with other stakeholders. Currently, the company has more than 1,100 MW under development, with ongoing construction activities and equipment deliveries already in motion across its project pipeline.
