Astronergy has successfully commissioned a new 31 MW solar power plant in Romania, marking a significant development in the country’s renewable energy landscape. Located in Slătioara, Vâlcea County, this facility is managed by Necaluxan Solthree, a subsidiary of Astronergy’s European operations. The project commenced development in 2023 and received its operational license earlier this year, enabling it to begin commercial electricity production.
The plant is set to undergo further enhancements with the addition of a battery energy storage system, which will have an estimated capacity of 14.4 MW. This upgrade aims to enhance grid flexibility and facilitate the integration of variable solar generation, which is crucial for maintaining stability in renewable energy supply.
In addition to this project, Astronergy is expanding its footprint in Romania’s renewable sector through another initiative under the umbrella of GIBE Energy, which was acquired by the company in 2024. This upcoming project involves a planned 55 MW solar plant in Hunedoara County, further solidifying Astronergy’s investments in the region.
The parent company of Astronergy, the Chint Group, has been active in Romania for over two decades, developing a robust portfolio of solar projects. This expansion has been supported by financing from the China Development Bank Corporation, underscoring the strategic partnerships that facilitate growth in the renewable energy sector.
The commissioning of the Slătioara solar plant and the planned battery storage system are indicative of Romania’s commitment to enhancing its renewable energy capabilities and aligning with broader European energy goals. As such developments unfold, they will play a critical role in shaping the future of energy production and consumption in the region.
