Emergy advances 720 MW Romanian wind portfolio and data-centre plans

Norwegian-Swedish renewable developer Emergy is advancing five wind farm projects in Romania with a combined planned capacity of about 720 MW. The projects are among the more advanced assets in its regional portfolio. Construction and commissioning schedules have not yet been announced.

The Romanian projects are part of an Emergy development pipeline of as much as 3 GW across Romania, Serbia, Greece and Ukraine. Their scale also reinforces Romania’s position as one of Southeast Europe’s largest renewable development markets. The company is using Romania as a starting point for a wider strategy linking renewable generation directly with large electricity consumers, particularly data centres.

Emergy is seeking to pair new wind and solar assets with long-term customers. Large, relatively predictable electricity demand from those customers could support investment and financing. The approach reflects a broader regional shift in which renewable developers compete not only for grid connections and permits, but also for industrial and digital customers able to underwrite future generation capacity.

Data-centre development across Southeast Europe

In the third quarter of 2026, Emergy secured exclusive development arrangements covering about 800 MW of potential data-centre capacity across Southeast Europe. The projects remain under development rather than in construction. Several have reached more advanced planning stages, and Emergy has formed a dedicated team to pursue the opportunities.

Vice President Gheorghe Ilisei said combining renewable generation with data-centre development could benefit both sides. Renewable projects would gain large long-term buyers. Data-centre operators, in turn, could secure dedicated renewable electricity supplies.
