RES has secured a contract to provide technical and commercial asset management for the 392 MW Peștera II wind project in Romania. The agreement supports preparations for one of the country’s largest new wind projects. Danish infrastructure investor Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners is developing the project.
Peștera II is located near Constanța in Romania’s Dobrogea region. It is scheduled to start producing electricity in 2028. The wind farm will use 56 Nordex N163/6.X turbines, each with a capacity of around 7 MW.
The turbines will stand on 138-metre steel towers. Once completed, the project is expected to produce enough electricity to match the annual consumption of more than 500,000 Romanian households. Its scale places it among the country’s largest new wind developments.
Commercial arrangements and asset management
The project has secured significant elements of its commercial and financing structure. In December 2024, it received a 15-year contract for difference covering 245 MW of capacity. The CfD gives a large share of its future output greater revenue visibility.
CIP reached financial close during the summer, enabling construction activities to progress. Under its agreement, RES will support the project during construction and preparations for long-term operation. Its role includes technical and commercial oversight.
The oversight is intended to improve operational readiness and control lifecycle costs. The mandate reflects the broader responsibilities involved in managing large renewable projects beyond construction. As projects move from development to operation, investors need to manage performance, warranties, grid obligations, commercial contracts and long-term operating costs.
Peștera II’s scale and CfD-backed revenue structure make these operating disciplines increasingly important as the project approaches its planned 2028 commissioning. RES’s support will cover both the construction period and the preparations for long-term operations.
