Eurowind Energy commissions 242 MW Tenevo solar plant with battery storage in Bulgaria

Danish renewable energy developer Eurowind Energy has commissioned the Tenevo solar power plant in Bulgaria. The project is described as one of the largest assets in the company’s international portfolio. It also adds to hybrid renewable energy infrastructure in Southeastern Europe.

The newly operational facility has an installed capacity of 242 MW. It is directly integrated with a large-scale battery energy storage system intended to enhance grid flexibility and support renewable balancing requirements.

Project partners and EPC scope

The Tenevo development was carried out in cooperation with Austria-based Renalfa IPP. Solarpro Holding served as the EPC contractor for the project. The contractor’s responsibilities included engineering, procurement, and construction works across the entire development.

Two-phase battery storage rollout

The battery storage system is being implemented in two phases. The first phase has a capacity of 65 MW / 260 MWh and is already operational. The second phase remains under construction.

When fully completed, the total storage capacity is expected to reach 311 MW / 772.5 MWh. The project is positioned among the largest battery-backed renewable installations in the region based on that combined capacity.

Commissioning timeline and hybrid scaling

The first stage of the Tenevo project was commissioned in August of last year. This marked the initial step in a gradual scaling of the hybrid system combining solar generation with battery storage.

The Tenevo project aligns with a broader regional trend of pairing solar output with advanced storage technologies. Developers are increasingly focused on improving grid stability and maximizing integration of renewable electricity into national power systems.
