Bulgaria has approved a 5.99% increase in its regulated wholesale gas price for October, taking the level to €44.10/MWh before taxes and network charges. The adjustment follows a 5.5% rise in September. The change is set against fuel-cost pressure ahead of the heating season.
KEVR decision keeps October price proposal unchanged
The energy regulator KEVR retained the original proposed price for October. It rejected a subsequent request by Bulgargaz to raise the tariff to €44.41/MWh. The approved figure applies to supplies under the regulated wholesale framework.
October supply mix and role of storage
Gas for October supplies will be sourced from two main channels. Volumes will combine gas purchased under Bulgaria’s long-term Azerbaijani contract with LNG procured through tenders. A relatively small contribution is expected from the Chiren underground storage facility.
Tariff coverage for regulated customers and heating producers
The approved tariff applies to Bulgargaz supplies to regulated customers, including heat producers. VAT and excise duty are excluded from the stated wholesale gas price. Network access and transmission charges are also excluded.
Natural gas accounts for more than 70% of residential heating prices in Bulgaria. With winter approaching, additional wholesale increases create exposure for both heating suppliers and consumers.
