Greece raises diesel subsidy and extends refinery discounts through mid-October

Greece is raising its diesel subsidy to €0.15 per litre for the next two weeks. The increase adds €0.05 in support as elevated fuel costs affect households and businesses. The measure is designed to run alongside existing retail price reductions.

Refinery discounts will continue to be applied during the same period. When combined with those discounts, the reduction available at petrol stations is expected to reach approximately €0.20 per litre. The government’s approach links direct subsidy support with fuel price cuts at the pump.

The government plans to review the level of support every 15 days. This review cycle is intended to allow adjustments as international prices change. The short extensions are aimed at providing near-term relief while keeping flexibility on spending.

Heating oil support ahead of the winter season

Attention will shift next to heating oil as the winter sales season begins on 15 October. Authorities aim to keep the initial retail price below €1.75 per litre. Additional support is expected to be announced before sales begin.
