Slovenia Advances 140 MW Floating Solar Project at Družmirje Lake

In a significant move toward enhancing its renewable energy portfolio, Slovenia has officially sanctioned the development of a floating solar power project at Družmirje Lake. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the surrounding area into a recreational and landscape hub, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

The national spatial plan adopted by the government paves the way for this ambitious project, which boasts an estimated capacity of 140 MW. Once operational, it is anticipated to rank among the largest floating solar facilities in the region, underscoring Slovenia’s proactive approach to renewable energy generation.

This approved plan outlines essential technical, environmental, safety, utility, and urban design requirements that must be met for successful implementation. The floating solar plant will be constructed directly on the lake’s surface and will include all necessary infrastructure to support its operation.

Beyond generating electricity, the project aims to integrate energy storage systems and grid connection equipment, which are crucial for enhancing reliability and ensuring a stable power supply. This initiative is designed not only to expand Slovenia’s renewable energy capacity but also to make efficient use of existing water surfaces.

The spatial plan incorporates feedback collected during a thorough public consultation process, which included contributions from local municipalities and community members. This feedback was carefully analyzed alongside the project’s variant study and environmental assessments, ensuring that the final framework aligns with both technical evaluations and community interests.
