Slovenian electricity consumption increased by more than 8% year on year in August, leaving demand ahead of the 2026 system plan. The August figures also increase the likelihood that full-year consumption will surpass the original 11 TWh forecast.
August consumption by grid segment
Transmission-network consumption reached 789.9 GWh during August. Distribution companies accounted for 703.7 GWh, up 11.5% year on year and 8.6% above forecast, with hot weather and stronger air-conditioning demand contributing to the rise.
Large industrial consumers directly connected to the transmission grid recorded a different pattern, with consumption falling to 53.7 GWh. That level was around 7% below August 2025 and more than 29% under forecast.
Pumped storage and transmission-system totals
Electricity used for pumping at the Avče pumped-storage plant dropped by more than 20% to 32.4 GWh. In January-August, Slovenian transmission-system consumption exceeded 7,229 GWh.
The January-August total was up 3.3% year on year and around 0.8% above plan. The data indicate that 2026 demand growth is being driven mainly by distribution-connected consumption rather than large industrial users.
