Romanian day-ahead market price and volume trends

The average electricity price on the Romanian OPCOM day-ahead market (DAM) reached €122.99/MWh in June 2026. This represented a 12.25% increase versus May, when the average baseload price was €109.56/MWh. Compared with June 2025, the average DAM price was 42.78% higher.

Higher prices coincided with reduced trading activity on the day-ahead market. Total traded volume in June 2026 was 0.89 million MWh, down 20.05% from May and 23.38% below June 2025. The average traded volume during the month stood at 1,233.8 MWh per hour, indicating lower participation than in prior periods.

Value of transactions and share of forecast consumption

The total value of transactions on the OPCOM day-ahead market reached €117.7 million in June 2026. This was 11.56% higher than in June 2025, when transaction value amounted to €105.5 million. Relative to May’s €120.3 million, the figure represented a 2.19% decline.

The day-ahead market accounted for 26.71% of Romania’s forecasted net electricity consumption in June 2026. This share indicates the DAM’s continued role as a reference point for wholesale electricity trading and price formation in the country.

Intraday market volumes fall alongside day-ahead liquidity

Trading activity also declined on the intraday market during June 2026. Total intraday traded volume reached 117,391.6 MWh, which was down 41.3% year-on-year versus June 2025 and down 13.43% compared with May 2026 . The reduction reflected weaker short-term trading volumes.

The intraday decrease occurred despite ongoing needs for market participants to manage renewable generation variability, demand changes, and balancing requirements . Overall, the June figures show higher wholesale costs alongside lower liquidity, while OPCOM remained central to day-ahead and intraday price formation in Southeast Europe.
