Hungary’s HUPX day-ahead market recorded an average electricity price of €124.67/MWh in June 2026. This was 17.1% higher than May, when the average baseload price stood at €106.51/MWh. The same month also saw the day-ahead peak price rise to €90.2/MWh.

The average HUPX day-ahead peak price increased by 45.1% compared with the previous month. The change reflected higher pricing during peak hours within the day-ahead schedule.

Day-ahead volumes fall despite higher prices

Even as prices moved higher, trading activity on the HUPX day-ahead market declined in June 2026. Total traded volume reached 2.38 million MWh, down 8.1% from May’s 2.59 million MWh. It was also 16.2% lower than the 2.84 million MWh recorded in June 2025.

The lower volume indicates that fewer quantities were exchanged on the day-ahead platform during the month. Trading remained active, but participation in terms of volume decreased relative to both the prior month and the same month a year earlier.

Intraday continuous trading rises alongside price changes

In contrast to the day-ahead market, activity on the HUPX intraday continuous market increased in June 2026. Traded volume rose to 1,143,415 MWh, representing an 11.2% increase versus the previous month. The shift pointed to greater engagement in shorter-term hourly trading.

The intraday increase coincided with participants adjusting positions in response to hourly variations in renewable generation and demand patterns. Cross-border conditions were also cited as part of the factors affecting intraday trading behavior during the month.

Registered members expand across both market segments

The number of participants on HUPX continued to grow in June 2026. The day-ahead market had 130 registered members, six more than in May. The intraday continuous market counted 125 registered members.

Taken together, June’s figures showed higher day-ahead pricing, reduced day-ahead traded volumes, increased intraday continuous volumes, and a larger registered participant base on HUPX.
