Bulgaria’s electricity production rose 15.6% year on year to 3,779 GWh in July, while domestic consumption fell 4.1% to 2,652 GWh. The change widened the gap between output and demand. Compared with June, generation increased 19.5%, while consumption climbed 7.5%.
Natural gas use and domestic production
Natural gas consumption reached 166 million cubic metres in the period, up 16.1% month on month and 4.4% year on year. Domestic gas production amounted to just 1 million cubic metres. This left consumption substantially above local output.
Petrol, diesel and LPG production versus consumption
Petrol data showed diverging movements between supply and demand. Petrol production increased 7.6% from June to 141,000 tonnes, while consumption fell 34% to 71,000 tonnes.
Diesel output rose 16.1% to 296,000 tonnes, but consumption increased faster, climbing 40.9% to 327,000 tonnes. Diesel consumption therefore exceeded domestic production.
Liquefied petroleum gas consumption grew 12.5% to 36,000 tonnes, while output fell 25% to 6,000 tonnes. The figures indicate a wider difference between LPG demand and domestic supply.
Solid-fuel production and consumption
Solid-fuel production increased 44.7% month on month to 1.354 million tonnes. Consumption rose by 42.3% to 1.443 million tonnes. The solid-fuel numbers were accompanied by stronger activity in electricity and solid fuels, while diesel demand outpaced local refinery output.
