April 2026 marked a significant uptick in trading activity on the Croatian power exchange, CROPEX, with total electricity transactions reaching 1,179,096.4 MWh. This figure represents a robust increase of 19.1% from March and a notable 20.1% rise compared to the same month last year. The day-ahead market accounted for the majority of this volume, with 913,476.3 MWh traded, while the intraday market recorded 265,620.1 MWh.
The pricing landscape during this period reflected a downward trend across various segments. The average daily baseload price on the day-ahead market fell to €90.42/MWh, indicating a decrease of 17.9% from March levels. Concurrently, the average euro-peak price saw a significant drop to €58.66/MWh, down by 37.4%, suggesting that peak demand hours experienced reduced pricing pressures and lower volatility.
On the intraday market, the average price also declined to €87.55/MWh, which is a decrease of 20.3% compared to the previous month. These trends highlight a complex interplay of supply and demand dynamics within the regional energy market, as increased trading volumes coincide with decreasing price levels across all major segments.
The data from CROPEX indicates a shifting landscape in Croatia’s electricity market, characterized by heightened trading activity amidst softer short-term market conditions. This evolution may signal adjustments in regional supply-demand balances and could have implications for future market strategies among participants.
