Bulgaria sees 13.55% increase in electricity production in early 2025, driven by coal, nuclear and renewables

Between February 1 and 2, 2025, Bulgaria experienced a 13.55% increase in electricity production compared to the same period in 2024, reaching a total of 4.47 TWh. Alongside this rise in production, the country’s electricity consumption also saw a slight increase of 0.95%, totaling 4.31 TWh. As a result, Bulgaria achieved net electricity exports of 0.153 TWh.

Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear facilities, generated 3.82 TWh of electricity in 2025, marking a 16% increase compared to 2024.

Renewable energy sources (RES) also contributed to the growth, with electricity production from RES in the transmission network rising by 6.03% to 226 GWh. In the distribution network, the share of RES increased by 13.47%, reaching 237.6 GWh.
