Electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina increased in August, while both imports and exports were lower than in August 2025. Gross production reached 529 GWh, up from 457 GWh a year earlier. Net production totaled 473 GWh.
Generation mix and net output
Thermal generation made up 65.2% of total output, with hydropower at 29.7% and wind farms at 5.1%. Net production included 305 GWh from thermal plants, 141 GWh from hydro and 27 GWh from wind. The figures show that thermal and hydro sources accounted for the majority of August generation.
Trade flows decline versus August 2025
Imports fell to 83 GWh from 172 GWh in August 2025. Exports also decreased, dropping to 60 GWh from 168 GWh a year earlier. The changes in cross-border flows occurred alongside higher overall generation.
Coal production falls
Coal output weakened during the month. Brown coal production fell by about 28% to 210,117 tonnes, while lignite production declined by 17.7% to 114,580 tonnes.
The August data indicate a stronger domestic electricity balance compared with the previous year, with generation still reliant on thermal plants and hydropower availability.
