Greek transmission operator ADMIE has secured equipment for grid projects worth about €3.5 billion, lowering procurement risk across more than half of its €6 billion investment programme through 2029. The secured equipment relates to the operator’s planned network build-out over the period.
ADMIE has moved early to reserve production capacity for critical components, with a focus on high-voltage cables. The move is linked to tight European manufacturing capacity for such equipment.
Cable contracts for Aegean links and Corinth-Kos
The contracts cover alternating-current (AC) cables for the Dodecanese and Northeastern Aegean interconnections. They also include direct-current (DC) cable work for the 1 GW Corinth-Kos link.
The Corinth-Kos project is described as roughly 1,290 km in length and is moving forward. ADMIE also targets completion of the Northeastern Aegean interconnection, which links Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios, Skyros and Samos, for 2030.
Financing package for 2026-2029 programme
Funding for the 2026-2029 programme includes a €530 million capital increase at ADMIE Holdings. It also includes ADMIE’s proportional participation in ADMIE’s €1 billion capital increase.
The funding package further includes financing from the European Investment Bank. Together, these elements support ADMIE’s investment plan through 2029.
Second Greece-Italy interconnector and procurement constraints
ADMIE and Terna are developing a second 1 GW Greece-Italy interconnector. Commercial operation is currently targeted for 2033.
The procurement strategy highlights cables and manufacturing slots as increasingly important constraints on Europe’s transmission expansion.
