Bosnia and Herzegovina increased gross electricity production to 1,118 GWh in July, up from 1,082 GWh a year earlier. The higher output was supported by stronger hydro and renewable generation. The generation mix showed thermal plants as the main source.
Thermal plants accounted for 60.7% of gross production, followed by hydropower at 28%. Wind and solar contributed 11.3% to total generation. Within the hydro segment, net output rose year on year.
Hydro, thermal and wind/solar output trends
Net hydro production increased 9.5% year on year to 301 GWh. Thermal generation fell 2.1% to 603 GWh. Wind and solar output rose 5.9% to 126 GWh.
Exports and imports move with the generation balance
The improved generation balance supported Bosnia’s external electricity position. Electricity exports increased 12% to 654 GWh, compared with 584 GWh in July 2025. Imports edged down to 419 GWh.
Coal and gas supply developments
Coal trends were mixed over the period reported. Lignite production jumped 55.9% to 558,000 tonnes, while brown coal output fell 17.4% to 461,000 tonnes. Natural gas imports dropped 39.1% to 6.3 million cubic metres.
