Romania: Electricity prices and trading volumes on OPCOM show mixed trends in August

In August 2024, the average price of electricity on the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM’s day-ahead market was €126.91/MWh. This represents a 24.86% decrease compared to August 2023 and a 12.56% drop from the previous month’s average baseload price of €145.14/MWh.

The traded volume in August reached 1.46 million MWh, marking a 19.5% increase from August 2023 but a 15.56% decrease from July. The average traded volume for August 2024 was 2,325.9 MWh/h. The total value of transactions for the month was €207.8 million, up by 55.14% from the €133.9 million recorded in August 2023 but down by 28.7% from July’s €291.5 million. The day-ahead market’s share of forecasted net consumption for August was 35.41%.

On the intraday market, 163,382 MWh were traded in August, an 8.98% increase compared to August 2023 and a 6.78% rise from July. The average price for intraday trading was €131.9/MWh, which is 25.51% higher than August 2023 but 5.62% lower than the previous month.

For bilateral contracts with delivery in August, the total traded volume was 0.776 million MWh, with an average price of €96.26/MWh.
