Even with the declines, weekly averages stayed above €130/MWh in most European markets except the Nordic region. The Nordic market posted the lowest weekly average at €81.46/MWh, while Italy recorded the highest at €215.82/MWh. Belgium averaged €141.42/MWh, and the Netherlands averaged €139.11/MWh. On September 14, several markets recorded their highest daily averages since December 2022: France, Portugal, Spain and the Nordic region. Germany and the Netherlands reached their highest levels since December 2024, while Great Britain recorded its highest price since January 2025. Italy maintained daily prices above €200/MWh from Monday through Saturday of the third week of September.

Sharp fall after September 19 and drivers cited for Italy

From September 19 onward, prices dropped sharply across most markets. On September 19, Great Britain recorded €31.24/MWh, while the Nordic market reached €9.71/MWh. By Sunday, September 20, Germany was at €21.75/MWh, and the Nordic market fell further to €8.59/MWh, which was the lowest daily price of the week among the analyzed markets.

AleaSoft Energy Forecasting attributed the broad decline to higher wind power generation alongside lower demand in some markets. In Italy, however, lower wind generation combined with elevated gas prices and higher CO₂ allowance prices contributed to an increase in electricity prices during this period.

AleaSoft outlook for week beginning September 21

For the week beginning September 21, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects electricity prices to rise in most analyzed European markets as wind power generation is expected to be lower . Prices are forecast to decline in Italy because wind generation is expected to increase . Gas price developments are also expected to remain a key factor influencing electricity prices across Europe during the fourth week of September .
