Solar output declines across major European markets while wind rises

In the week of September 14, solar photovoltaic generation fell across all major European electricity markets compared with the previous week. Portugal saw the largest decrease, dropping 10% after two consecutive weeks of growth. France and Germany recorded declines of 6.2% and 5.4%, respectively, while Spain fell by 4.4%. Italy posted the smallest reduction at 1.0%, with Germany, France, Spain and Italy all recording lower solar output for a second consecutive week.

AleaSoft expects solar increases from September 21

For the week beginning September 21, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects solar generation to rise in the German, Spanish and Italian electricity markets. The forecast points to an increase in those three markets following the prior week’s declines across major European systems.

Wind power changes during the third week of September

In the third week of September, wind power generation increased in most major European electricity markets compared with the previous week. Portugal recorded the strongest growth, with output rising 49%, followed by Germany where generation increased 43% after declining in the previous week. France reported a 10% increase after two consecutive weeks of declines, while Spain’s wind generation rose 7.4%. Portugal and Spain recorded higher output for a second consecutive week, while Italy was the exception as wind generation fell 16% after increasing the previous week.

Forecasts for wind generation from September 21

For the week beginning September 21, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects lower wind generation in Germany, France, Portugal and Spain. In contrast, wind power output is expected to increase in Italy, AleaSoft reports.
