Turkish company Europower Enerji has been named the preferred bidder for the construction of the Gračanica solar power project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The selection is described as another step in the country’s gradual expansion of renewable energy capacity. Europower Enerji has been invited to sign the contract, with the award still subject to completion of final procedural steps.
The company’s offer of €26.9 million ranked as the most competitive bid in an international tender. The tender was conducted under the procurement rules of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Project scope and grid connection works
The project is being developed by the state-owned utility EPBiH, with financing support from the EBRD. It covers two solar power plants, Gračanica 1 and Gračanica 2, with a combined installed capacity of 50 MW. The works also include a new 110/20 kV substation.
In addition to substation construction, the scope includes transmission infrastructure required to connect the facilities to the national grid. The solar plants are planned near Bugojno, on the site of a former mining area.
Expected generation and emissions impact
Earlier EBRD estimates place expected annual generation from the two plants at approximately 67.75 GWh. This output is estimated to be sufficient to supply around 22,000 households. Once operational, the project is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 40,000 tons annually.
The Gračanica scheme is part of a broader pipeline of renewable investments being developed by EPBiH. The utility is continuing to expand its solar generation portfolio and diversify away from conventional thermal sources.
