Bulgaria sees strong growth in electricity and fuel production in December 2024

According to the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute, electricity production in December 2024 increased by 27% compared to November, reaching 3,821 GWh, while consumption rose by 9.3% to 3,556 GWh. Compared to December 2023, electricity production was up by 1.3%, and consumption grew by 4.6%.

Natural gas consumption in December increased by 2.1% month-on-month to 296 million cubic meters, while production remained steady at 1 million cubic meters. Year-on-year, natural gas consumption rose by 1.4%.

In the petroleum sector, unleaded petrol production surged by 73.6% to 151,000 tons, while consumption dropped by 34.9% to 41,000 tons. Diesel production increased by 11.2% to 278,000 tons, but its consumption declined by 13.2% to 210,000 tons. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption remained unchanged at 35,000 tons, while production fell by 16.7% to 5,000 tons.

Solid fuel production increased by 12.8% to 2.3 million tons, while consumption rose by 11.2% to 2.33 million tons, reflecting strong demand for coal and other solid fuels during the winter season.
