Bulgaria holds household energy tariffs unchanged until July 2027

In Bulgaria, regulated electricity prices for households and district-heating tariffs will remain unchanged until 1 July 2027. The measure shields consumers from the immediate impact of rising natural gas costs. Energy regulator KEVR said existing financial reserves and regulatory mechanisms can absorb higher costs.

No tariff increase is therefore expected in January, with household prices forecast to remain unchanged through the coming winter. Higher gas costs are putting increasing pressure on district-heating companies. Natural gas accounts for more than 60% of their operating expenses, leaving the sector particularly exposed to the latest rise in European wholesale prices.

Funding and gas-price pressures

The government also plans to ensure that the Energy System Security Fund has sufficient resources. The fund supports mechanisms used to stabilise household energy bills. The policy will be tested if international gas prices remain elevated.

Bulgargaz is separately seeking additional withdrawal capacity from the Chiren storage facility. The move is aimed at reducing its proposed 34% November increase in wholesale gas prices. KEVR said existing regulatory instruments should be sufficient to prevent an immediate pass-through to households.
