Bulgaria: IBEX reports decrease in electricity trading volumes and prices in March 2025

In March 2025, a total of 2,396,369.9 MWh of electricity was traded on the day-ahead market of the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX), marking a 7.7% decrease compared to February. The average daily traded volume for the month was 77,302.3 MWh. When compared to the same period in 2024, the traded volume in March was 3.6% lower.

The average baseload price on the day-ahead market for March was 104.4 euros/MWh, reflecting a significant 33.3% decrease from February’s average of 156.45 euros/MWh. Similarly, the average peak price dropped by 44%, reaching 92.29 euros/MWh. The number of registered participants on the IBEX day-ahead market decreased by one, bringing the total to 128.

On the intraday continuous market, a total of 394,154.4 MWh was traded, representing a 3.2% drop from the previous month. However, the average weighted price for the intraday market was 101.04 euros/MWh, which is 36.1% lower than February’s price. This marked the highest monthly traded volume ever recorded on the intraday market.
