The Albanian Power Exchange, ALPEX, reported that total electricity traded on its day-ahead market in June 2026 reached 197.2 GWh. The figure was 2.8% lower than the volume recorded in May but remained 45.4% higher year on year. Trading activity continued to cover organized electricity exchange between Albania and Kosovo.
Volume on ALPEX was split between its two bidding zones. The Kosovo zone accounted for 108.7 GWh, while the Albania zone recorded 136.1 GWh. Both zones cleared at an average price of €91.55/MWh during the month.
Day-ahead volumes and clearing prices
ALPEX said both bidding zones posted the same average clearing level of €91.55/MWh in June 2026. The exchange reported that the day-ahead market’s price signals are based on market clearing outcomes across the regional system. Trading volumes and pricing were reported for the month’s day-ahead activity.
The financial value of transactions on ALPEX during June 2026 was approximately €32.5 million. This represented a 10% increase compared with the same month of the previous year. The exchange linked the higher transaction value to stronger participation and increased trading activity.
Exchange setup and market participation
ALPEX was established in October 2020 through cooperation between Albania’s transmission system operator OST and Kosovo’s transmission operator KOSTT. The exchange was set up to support development of a more efficient and competitive regional electricity market. Its first day-ahead auction for the Albanian bidding zone began in April 2023.
The exchange currently has 36 registered market participants operating across the Albania and Kosovo bidding zones. With renewable-energy capacity expanding and cross-border electricity flows becoming more important, ALPEX is expected to take on a larger role in market transparency, investment signals, and trading efficiency across Southeast Europe.
