ALPEX reported that total traded volume in its day-ahead market reached 202.9 GWh in May 2026. The figure represented a 6.7% increase versus the previous month. It also marked a 63% rise compared with May 2025.
Trading volumes were split between bidding zones, with 137.6 GWh in the Kosovo bidding zone and 142.7 GWh in the Albania bidding zone. The average market clearing price was €89.6/MWh for Albania and €90.3/MWh for Kosovo. The overall ALPEX average price stood at €89.95/MWh.
The total transaction value on ALPEX in May was approximately €35.4 million. This corresponded to a 167.3% year-on-year increase.
Exchange setup and participation
ALPEX was established in October 2020 by the Albanian transmission system operator OST and Kosovo’s transmission system operator KOSTT. Its first Albanian day-ahead auction was launched in April 2023.
The exchange currently has 36 registered members across the Albania and Kosovo bidding zones. Trading activity is conducted within the Western Balkan electricity trading framework referenced in ALPEX’s monthly reporting.
