The Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) reported continued trading activity in June 2026, with day-ahead electricity volumes totaling 2,707,995.2 MWh. The figure was 1% higher than the previous month and 18.5% above the same period a year earlier. Average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market reached 90,266.5 MWh during June.
Pricing on the day-ahead market showed mixed movement. Average baseload prices fell to €98.08/MWh from €101.07/MWh in May, a decline of about 3%. Average peak prices increased by 6% to €64.88/MWh, according to the June figures.
Day-ahead participation and liquidity
Liquidity indicators improved alongside higher volumes on the day-ahead market. In June, 155 registered participants were active on IBEX, which was one more than in the previous month. The exchange activity also reflected ongoing participation in organized wholesale trading in Bulgaria.
On the intraday continuous market, total traded volumes reached 673,371.5 MWh. This was 9% lower than in May, while liquidity remained solid. The average weighted intraday price declined slightly by 1% to €88.51/MWh during June.
Regional integration context for organized trading
June trading results were linked to continued development of Bulgaria’s organized electricity market through higher exchange volumes and participation. IBEX’s activity also aligns with deeper regional integration within Southeast Europe’s power market framework.
The exchange data also points to conditions shaped by generation changes and cross-border trading needs. As renewable generation increases and cross-border electricity exchanges become increasingly important, IBEX is expected to support market efficiency and price transparency across Southeast Europe.
