June 2026 trading volumes and market split
The Croatian Power Exchange (CROPEX) reported 1,314,010.2 MWh of electricity traded in June 2026. The figure was up 19.1% versus May and 9.1% compared with June 2025. Trading activity covered both day-ahead and intraday segments during the month.
Day-ahead volumes totaled 986,130.5 MWh, while intraday trading reached 327,879.7 MWh. The average daily day-ahead traded volume was 32,871 MWh. This distribution reflected participation across short-term delivery windows.
Day-ahead and intraday price developments
Alongside higher liquidity, CROPEX reported stronger price levels throughout June 2026. The average day-ahead baseload price increased to €115.90/MWh, up 11.9% from May. Peak-hour pricing rose more sharply during the month.
The average peak-hour price reached €250.97/MWh, representing a 286% increase on a monthly basis. On the intraday market, the average traded price was €120.34/MWh, up 12.6% compared with the previous month.
CROPEX ownership, market launch dates and coupling
CROPEX was established on 11 March 2016 through cooperation with Nord Pool, one of Europe’s leading electricity exchanges. The exchange is jointly owned by the Croatian Transmission System Operator (HOPS) and the Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE).
The intraday market was launched in April 2017, expanding CROPEX’s offering for managing short-term electricity positions. A further integration step followed on 19 June 2018, when the CROPEX day-ahead market was coupled with the Multi-Regional Coupling (MRC) markets via the Croatia-Slovenia interconnection.
Role in regional market integration
CROPEX said the coupling improved cross-border trading opportunities and strengthened Croatia’s connection to the broader European electricity market. The exchange’s development is linked to changes in regional power flows as renewable generation expands across the area.
CROPEX is expected to support market liquidity, price transparency, cross-border integration and the efficient development of Southeast Europe’s electricity market as these conditions evolve.
