Renalfa IPP has expanded its Devnya solar plant in northeastern Bulgaria from 5 MW to 65 MW. The project also added a 60 MW/165 MWh battery. The upgrade increases generation at a site already connected to the grid.
Solarpro Technology carried out the expansion as engineering, procurement and construction contractor. Renalfa said it used a similar approach at Kaolinovo, where a 60 MW solar plant is paired with 33 MW/110 MWh of storage.
The battery provides the operator with more choice over when to sell power. That flexibility is becoming more valuable as additional solar supply puts pressure on prices during daylight hours.
