The Slovenian Ministry of Defence has partnered with the state-run motorway operator DARS, the Vipava municipality, and the renewable energy company Soske Elektrarne Nova Gorica (SENG) to establish solar power plants at several key locations. These sites include the Mlake military training ground, various Ministry properties, and a future industrial zone in Vipava.

The agreement also lays the groundwork for potential hydrogen energy projects at these locations, marking a broader commitment to advancing green energy solutions in the region.

Known as the SE Vipava initiative, the project integrates military infrastructure with renewable energy development. Its objectives go beyond simply installing solar power plants; the initiative aims to enhance the energy self-sufficiency of Slovenia’s defence sector and improve resilience against energy supply disruptions. SENG, a subsidiary of Holding Slovenske Elektrarne (HSE), Slovenia’s leading renewable energy producer, estimates that the solar installations could have a capacity of up to 20 MW. In addition to helping with project documentation, SENG will provide expert technical assistance and may offer funding support if required.
