Electrocentrale Borzesti, is planning to convert unit 7 of the plant into a combined heat and power (CHP) plant with power output of 189 MW.

The company is owned by RG Renovatio Group, and last year it bought the defunct thermal power plant Borzesti from bankrupt state-owned energy company Termoelectrica.

According to the company, the new gas unit could be operational by mid-2021, while the total value of investment is around 70 million euros. The project will consist of upgrading the existing unit 7 and transforming it into a combined cycle electricity generation system, consisting of three groups with electric generators driven by gas turbines and recovery boilers for medium pressure steam production.
