North Macedonia’s day-ahead electricity exchange traded 150,360.8 MWh in July 2026, according to market operator MEMO. The figure marked an increase compared with both the previous month and the same period in the prior year. The data were released as part of the operator’s reporting on organised market activity.
July’s traded volume was 9.6% higher than in June and 1.3% above the 135,072 MWh recorded in July 2025. Average daily turnover reached 4,850.3 MWh. The operator said this reflected continued growth in exchange-based electricity trading.
Market-clearing prices rise alongside higher volumes
Alongside the increase in traded volumes, MEMO reported a higher market-clearing price for July. The average price reached EUR 105.83/MWh, which represented a 12.9% increase compared with June. MEMO also cited a July peak-price indicator of EUR 73.40/MWh.
The operator’s figures indicate that higher clearing prices translated into increased costs for participants securing electricity during July. This change coincided with the expansion of exchange activity reported for the same period.
Day-ahead exchange launched in May 2023
North Macedonia launched its day-ahead electricity exchange in May 2023. The initiative was described as part of efforts to strengthen market-based electricity trading and improve integration with regional power markets.
The latest data show that organised-market trading continued to expand, with more electricity moving through the exchange. MEMO’s reporting also linked the July outcomes to both greater liquidity and stronger regional integration as the market matures.
