As Hungary undergoes a governmental transition, the newly elected Prime Minister, Peter Magyar, has indicated that the existing fuel price caps will remain in place. This decision aims to ensure that the prices of petrol and diesel do not exert additional strain on public finances, reflecting a commitment to policy consistency despite the political shift.
This announcement follows a meeting with Zsolt Hernadi, CEO of MOL Group, alongside other senior executives and representatives from the Tisza Party. The discussions emphasized the importance of maintaining a stable fuel supply across Hungary, particularly in light of the ongoing fluctuations in global energy markets.
In addition, Magyar has urged outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orban to extend the current measures that reduce fuel-related income taxes. With these tax reductions set to expire at the end of April, Magyar proposed an extension of one month to support continued price stability and safeguard consumer interests during this transitional period.
