The Croatian government has announced the extension of its gas subsidy program, aimed at mitigating the financial impact of rising energy prices on households. This initiative will remain effective until the end of September 2026, providing essential support to consumers by offsetting part of their gas supply costs.
Under the revised scheme, compensation levels will differ across various distribution zones. Suppliers will receive reimbursements that cover the gap between current market prices and the regulated rates. Authorities have indicated that without this intervention, households could face an increase in gas prices by as much as 7.6%, underscoring the critical nature of sustained governmental support in the energy sector.
Funding for this subsidy program will be sourced from the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, supplemented by revenues generated from the sale of emission allowances. These financial resources are intended to ensure that payments to gas suppliers are made promptly, thereby maintaining the operational integrity of the subsidy mechanism.
