Fortis Energy starts 75 MW solar and 40 MWh battery project in Albania

Turkish renewable energy developer Fortis Energy has started construction on a hybrid power project in southeastern Albania that combines solar generation with battery storage. The development is located in the area around Erseke and Tac-Larte. The investment is part of the company’s expansion across the Western Balkans, where utility-scale renewables are increasingly paired with flexibility solutions.

Erseke solar plant and Tac-Larte BESS

The project includes a 75 MW solar power plant near the town of Erseke. A separate 40 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) will be built in the nearby village of Tac-Larte. Based on company estimates, the solar facility is expected to generate around 135 GWh of electricity annually.

Permitting and construction timeline

Construction began after Albanian authorities issued a building permit for the project in June 2025. The permit confirmed regulatory approval for the development phase. The work is being carried out using a mix of local contractors and suppliers, supported by international partners.

Role in Fortis Energy’s Albania portfolio

The Erseke hybrid project forms part of Fortis Energy’s broader renewable strategy in Albania. The company is developing a generation portfolio totaling 234 MW. In addition, it is advancing other battery storage projects with a combined capacity of 75 MWh.
