In a significant development for Albania’s energy sector, the Karavasta solar power plant, operated by French renewable energy firm Voltalia, has reported a stable electricity output of 39 GWh during the first quarter of 2026. This production level mirrors the figures from the same period in the previous year, indicating consistent operational performance since the plant commenced electricity generation in December 2023.
The 140 MW facility plays a crucial role in enhancing Albania’s renewable energy capacity, contributing to the country’s strategic goals for sustainable energy expansion. Notably, half of the plant’s annual output is directed to Albania’s electricity distribution system operator, OSHEE, under a 15-year power purchase agreement. The remaining output is designated for private operators through long-term contracts, reflecting a diversified approach to energy distribution.
Looking ahead, Voltalia is expanding its footprint in Albania with the initiation of a new 100 MW solar project in the Spitalle region, which began construction in early 2024. By late 2025, this project is expected to secure a 30-year electricity generation license, reinforcing Voltalia’s commitment to the Albanian energy market and its long-term operational strategy.
This ongoing investment in solar infrastructure not only supports Albania’s renewable energy objectives but also positions Voltalia as a key player in the regional energy landscape.
