During the week of February 9, solar photovoltaic energy production demonstrated a varied performance across key European electricity markets. The Spanish market led the way with a significant increase of 16%, marking a continuation of its upward trajectory. Germany followed closely, achieving a 13% growth for the second consecutive week. Portugal also contributed positively with a 5% rise in solar output. However, Italy’s increase was modest at just 0.4%, while France faced a notable setback, experiencing a 27% decline in photovoltaic generation after three weeks of consistent growth.

In a remarkable achievement, the Italian market set a new record for solar energy production on February 13, generating 89 GWh, the highest output for any February day. Looking ahead to the week of February 16, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting suggest that solar energy production is expected to rise further in Germany, Italy, and Spain.

Turning to wind energy trends for the same week, France again showcased robust performance with a 38% increase in output, marking its second consecutive week of growth. Spain and Portugal also rebounded from previous declines, reporting increases of 8.6% and 6.0%, respectively. Conversely, Germany and Italy experienced reductions in wind energy output; Germany saw a drop of 17%, continuing its downward trend from the prior week, while Italy’s output fell by 15% after three weeks of growth.

The French market achieved another milestone by generating 380 GWh on February 11, setting a new all-time high for wind energy production for February. For the upcoming week of February 16, forecasts indicate an anticipated rise in wind energy production in both Italy and Germany. However, Portugal, Spain, and France are projected to see decreases in their wind output according to AleaSoft’s reports.
