DESFA is preparing new infrastructure at the Revythoussa LNG terminal to allow the facility to expand beyond conventional gas imports and become a supply point for LNG-fuelled shipping. The project is aimed at shifting Revythoussa’s role from feeding gas into Greece’s transmission system toward maritime fuel services.
Tender details for small-scale floating LNG jetty
DESFA launched a tender in early August for a small-scale floating LNG jetty. The contract is valued at approximately €15 million excluding VAT. Bids are due by 21 September, with construction expected to take around 18 months after contract award.
LNG loading for bunker and feeder vessels
The planned infrastructure would enable bunker and feeder vessels to load LNG directly at Revythoussa. It would also support supply operations for ships operating from Piraeus and surrounding ports. Potential users include container vessels, cargo ships and Ro-Pax ferries.
Ship-to-ship refuelling and wider distribution network
The jetty is also designed to accommodate direct ship-to-ship refuelling. This could extend LNG bunkering services to larger vessels, including cruise ships.
Beyond the Athens maritime market, smaller feeder vessels could transport LNG from Revythoussa to storage facilities, satellite terminals and distribution points at other Greek ports. This would create a wider small-scale LNG distribution network across Greece. The project would add a commercial role to an infrastructure asset traditionally focused on feeding gas into Greece’s transmission system.
