TAP boosts Albania’s gas entry capacity toward Roskovec and Fier South

TAP has made 160 million cubic metres per year of capacity available for gas moving from Greece to a new exit point at Roskovec. The additional access comes as Albania’s domestic gas network remains undeveloped, limiting deliveries to end users. The change is tied to operational updates on the Greece side of the system.

Bidirectional flows enabled via Nea Mesimvria interconnection

The arrangement follows the conversion of the Nea Mesimvria interconnection, west of Thessaloniki, to bidirectional operation on October 1. With the upgrade in place, gas can flow between TAP and Greece’s transmission system in either direction. This enables greater flexibility for routing supplies through the cross-border corridor.

Fier South exit point planned for 2027 handover

A separate Fier South Exit Point is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027. The facility will be located beside TAP’s compressor station near Fier. It is designed to reduce pressure and meter gas before delivery into Albania’s future network, with ownership expected to transfer to Albania after construction.

Albanian network build-out includes Fier–Vlore corridor and Korca distribution

Domestic development plans include a Fier–Vlore gas corridor and municipal distribution infrastructure. A memorandum signed with SOCAR in November 2024 covers development of a distribution network in Korca. Additional exit capacity therefore increases potential supply options, while commercial demand depends on pipelines and distribution systems linking entry points to customers.

Current supply route for TAP volumes from Shah Deniz

TAP currently carries mainly Azerbaijani gas from Shah Deniz. That gas reaches Greece through TANAP, before crossing Albania and the Adriatic to Italy. The expanded exit capacity adds further routing options from Greece into Albania’s system as it develops.
