Greece’s DESFA has approved investment in a 145-km gas pipeline connecting Megalopoli with Patra. The project is intended to extend the national transmission network toward industrial customers in Western Greece. The operator’s board took the final investment decision in September, enabling the work to move into implementation.
Pipeline route and planned facilities
The 20-inch pipeline will run from near Perivolia in Megalopoli to the Patra Industrial Area. At the Patra end, plans include a metering and pressure-regulation facility. The scheme also calls for six valve stations along the route.
Future network extension and commercial considerations
The design includes provision for a future branch toward Pyrgos, which would support further network expansion. Direct access to the high-pressure system would broaden fuel procurement options for local industry. The announcement did not disclose the project’s capital cost or any commissioning timetable.
DESFA said the Patra connection represents the first major step in supplying parts of Western Greece that are currently outside the national transmission system. The investment’s commercial value will depend on customer connections and sustained gas demand. Any subsequent extensions would require additional development decisions.
