Romania’s average day-ahead electricity price reached €176.14/MWh in September, up 81.49% year on year. The increase was linked to higher wholesale prices that lifted the value of transactions on OPCOM. The monthly average rose 16.53% from August, when it stood at €151.16/MWh.

Day-ahead volumes and transaction values on OPCOM

Day-ahead trading volume totalled approximately 1.212 TWh, up 4.5% year on year and 2.02% month on month. Average hourly traded volume was 1,683.9 MWh. Transaction value increased to €211.4 million, rising 82.67% versus September 2025 and 17.72% compared with August.

The transaction value grew faster than traded volume, indicating that price increases were the dominant factor behind the change in market expenditure. For buyers exposed to spot procurement, the data indicate substantially higher costs, with outcomes varying by consumption profiles and existing hedges.

Intraday trading prices and volumes

Intraday trading reached 138.4 GWh, down 1.97% year on year but up 14.83% from August. The average intraday price was €169.88/MWh, increasing 84.06% year on year and 38.64% month on month.

The September figures showed that higher electricity costs extended beyond the day-ahead auction, affecting the expense of adjusting positions closer to delivery .
