Solar photovoltaic gains in the week of June 15
In the week of June 15, solar photovoltaic generation increased across major European power markets, extending a short-term recovery from the previous week. Germany recorded the largest rise at +34%, followed by France at +33%, while Italy increased by +5.2%. Portugal and Spain also posted higher output, with gains of +10% and +13%, respectively. France, Portugal and Italy extended their growth trend for a second consecutive week, while Germany and Spain reversed declines from the prior two weeks.
Record solar output levels during mid-June
Several markets reached notable solar production milestones during the same period. France and Portugal set new all-time highs in photovoltaic output, with France peaking at 183 GWh on June 15 and Portugal reaching 34 GWh on June 19. Spain and Italy also logged their strongest solar output for a June day, reaching 251 GWh on June 18 in Spain and 161 GWh on June 18 in Italy. The figures were reported alongside continued expansion of solar penetration across southern Europe.

For the week of June 22, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting point to further increases in solar generation in Germany and Italy. Spain is expected to see a decline in photovoltaic output over the same forecast period . The outlook indicates divergence between markets as conditions change across the region.
Wind generation declines across most markets in late June
Wind energy production fell sharply across most European power markets during the third week of June. Portugal recorded the steepest drop at -62%, followed by France at -50%, with both markets extending their downward trend for a second consecutive week. Germany, Italy and Spain also saw significant declines of -49%, -43%, and -33%, respectively. Spain and Italy reversed earlier upward trends, while Germany ended a three-week growth streak.
Low wind output for June and partial recovery outlook
Several countries also posted historically low wind output for June during this period. Spain recorded just 43 GWh on June 16, its lowest June wind production in three years, while Italy fell to 13 GWh on June 21, also a multi-year low . France registered 27 GWh on June 17, its weakest June output since 2021. For the fourth week of June, forecasts indicate partial recovery in wind generation across Portugal, France, Spain and Italy, while Germany is expected to remain weak .
