Weekly solar photovoltaic changes
In the week of June 1, solar photovoltaic output fell across major European electricity markets versus the prior week. Germany recorded the largest decline at 25%, with France close behind at 24%. Portugal was down 4.6% and Spain fell by 4.7%, while Italy saw a 7.7% decrease in solar generation.
Despite the weekly decline, June 1 delivered record-level solar production in parts of Southern Europe. The Iberian Peninsula reached all-time highs for a June day, with Spain producing 250 GWh and Portugal generating 32 GWh. For Portugal, the 32 GWh figure was also the second-highest solar production level in its history, just below the record set on May 29, 2026.
Solar outlook for the week beginning June 8
For the week of June 8, forecasts point to mixed solar trends across Europe. AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects Italy and Spain to increase solar generation. The same source projects a further reduction in photovoltaic output for the German market.
Wind generation rises in early June
Wind energy output increased across most European markets during the first week of June. France led with a 151% rise, followed by Portugal up 81% and Germany up 75%. The increases marked the second consecutive week of growth for both Portugal and Germany.
Spain recorded a 37% increase in wind generation, while Italy rose by 16%.
Daily wind records and next-week divergence forecast
The first week also included several daily wind milestones. On June 2, Portugal posted its highest daily wind output in three years at 62 GWh. On June 4, France reached a June record with daily wind generation of 276 GWh.
AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects continued divergence in wind trends for the second week of June. The forecast calls for increases in Germany and Spain. It also projects declines for France, Portugal, and Italy, according to AleaSoft reports.
