Net electricity generation in May 2026 fell by 9% year-on-year, according to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. Total net production reached 1,135 GWh. Output was also 6% higher than in April 2026, indicating a short-term monthly recovery alongside the annual decline.
Generation mix: thermal up, hydropower down
Production trends varied across technologies in May 2026. Thermal power plants generated 73 GWh, up 2% compared with the same month last year. Hydropower output declined by 35%, falling to 321 GWh.
Electricity generation from the nuclear power plant Krško remained stable at 517 GWh. Wind and solar generation increased by 34%, reaching 224 GWh.
Electricity trade: imports rise while exports fall
Slovenia imported 869 GWh of electricity in May 2026, which was 9% higher than in May 2025. Exports decreased by 9% to 907 GWh.
Consumption and commodity supply: mixed demand, lower energy categories
Electricity consumption showed mixed movement during the month. Household demand fell by 5% month-on-month to 241 GWh, while commercial consumption rose by 4% to 569 GWh.
The overall supply of energy commodities declined across most categories. Kerosene supply dropped by 22%, natural gas fell by 18%, and hard coal decreased by 12%, while only coke supply increased by 9%. Compared with May 2025, kerosene, coal, petroleum products, gas, and petrol all recorded lower supply levels.
