The Romanian energy exchange, OPCOM, reported an average day-ahead electricity price of €117.64/MWh for December 2025. This figure indicates a significant 16.62% decline compared to December 2024 and a 3.16% reduction from November 2025, when the average baseload price was €121.48/MWh.
In terms of trading activity, the total volume for December reached 1.47 million MWh, reflecting a 10.99% year-on-year decrease. However, this volume was 14.88% higher than the previous month. The average traded volume during the month stood at 1,972.6 MWh/h. The total transaction value on the day-ahead market amounted to €175.3 million, which is a 30.51% drop from December 2024’s €252.2 million but represents a 9.37% increase from November’s €160.3 million.
The day-ahead market’s share of forecasted net consumption in December accounted for 32.28%, indicating a stable demand relative to trading activity during this period.
On the intraday market, trading totaled 171,298.8 MWh, marking a slight decrease of 1.84% year-on-year and a 9.98% decline from November figures. The average price in this segment was reported at €122.83/MWh, which reflects a 19.31% decrease compared to December 2024 and a 2.25% drop from the previous month.
Bilateral contracts for delivery in December amounted to 1.156 million MWh, with an average price of €105.15/MWh. This competitive pricing underscores the dynamics within Romania’s electricity market.
The overall data points to a downward trend in electricity prices across OPCOM markets despite moderate trading volumes, suggesting an environment of improved market conditions and stable supply throughout December 2025.
